New series provides "mountaintop" perspective

Some of the Bible's most inspiring episodes have mountaintop settings. Think Moses and the 10 commandments, Jesus and the transfiguration -- you get the idea. Mountains' peaks provide an unobstructed view of the landscape of our lives. Pastor Bob's new series begins Feb. 5. Don't miss it!

Plan for success for your daily time in God's word

As we look at the white canvas of a new year, we feel freshly inspired to renew our efforts to spend time in God’s Word. We know, as followers of Christ, that the daily intake “the bread of life” provides essential nourishment, direction and inspiration for everyday life.

Here are some tips to help assure that your time in God’s word will be enjoyable and life-giving in the year ahead:

Pick a sensible plan – While reading through the Bible in a year is not the only plan out there. ANY daily reading is beneficial! A single verse shipped to your email, provided you take time to let it sink in and find an application for your life, can provide meaningful information your heart needs.

Carve out time – Drive-by Bible reading will not produce results. You need time to reflect and let it sink in. Even a 10-minute break, at home, at work or at school, can be enough to hear God speak through His word.

Vary your input – In today’s media age, there are countless resources to help add variety to your personal study. Consider podcasts, online Bibles, smart phone apps and the huge variety of other resources that help deliver a custom program directly to your phone, iPod or computer.

Connect with God –Think of Bible reading as a conversation with God. The Word is His personal letter to you. Before you read, ask the Holy Spirit to help you understand what you read. Then reflect on what you have read. Listen to what God is telling you. And finally, apply it to your life. There will always be some way it is relevant to your world.
